The moderate treatment of rural domestic sewage is being emphasised and promoted from top to bottom, laying the foundation for subsequent resource utilisation.

Development Direction of Regionalised Sewage Resource Utilisation

Artificial wetland is currently the most widely used rural domestic sewage treatment technology in rural areas. The practical application of resourceful utilisation of rural domestic sewage in China still remains at the stage of artificial wetland, stabilisation pond and ecological soil purification. As the agricultural surface pollution including rural domestic sewage has become the main source of rural pollution in China, the whole basin management, source reduction-pre-blocking-resourcefulness-ecological restoration will be the development direction of agricultural surface management source pollution control. Similarly, rural domestic sewage needs to use regional resources. Strengthening the service function of rural ecosystems through artificial transformation, combining rural domestic wastewater treatment plants, which are only based on resource reduction, with recycling agriculture, introducing regionalised treatment systems compatible with agricultural production, and giving full play to the role of regulation, the agro-ecosystems themselves operate in such a way that they can reduce pollutant generation and discharge.
